versatile vanilla

Vanilla beans should be stored in a tightly sealed box,
In a cool place.

To remove the seeds from the bean:
Flatten the bean with the back of a knife.
To open:
Slit the wider part of the bean, and
Delicately scrape the inside to collect the seeds either with a knife, or
With a small spoon.

Be sure to save the bean after removing the seeds.
You can used it to flavor a jar of sugar or salt;
You can also dry it in a box in order to
Pulverize it and flavor your pastry shells,
Your olive oil and
Salad dressings!
